Mr. Rea,
I am pleased that you were selected as Chamber of C. president, and I like the approach you are taking in asking residents of Michiana for ideas that will be useful to sell our area. My husband and I recently took a trip and talked with a number of strangers. To each of them we praised the South Bend area. My first thought was to exclaim about the number of full-time universities in our area which provide endless events both academic and cultural. One could conceivably go to a lecture or musical event every day of the week. . Second,, as a music fan I touted the quality of the SB Symphony and the one-of-a-kind Toradze studio at IUSB. Third, I emphasized our proximity to Chicago. Fourth, I find the Michiana area to be a caring place with numerous non-profit agencies to foster residents' well-being. Fifth, the medical school collaboration between IU and ND.is a plus as well as the very competent medical personnel in our area. From a personal standpoint, I love the seasons, the ease of travel in the city, the people and the opportunities given to senior citizens (of which I am one). In closing, I will simply state that I would not want to live elsewhere.

SJ Chamber of Commerce
Have recently retired from SaraLee as Director of Continuous Improvement and applaud the activity around trying to attract new business and retain the current businesses. I read Jeff Rea's column this morning on family private businesses. I think this is the wave of the future as our economy cycles back and forth. We have to do more to make our business base as efficient and profitable as we can. This is what I do...
I am interested in helping out the effort to improve our ability to make the business base in SJC the best not just competitive.
Let me know how I can help out,
PS- I am not trying to make money or sell my talent as a consultant
